Jetting off on a plane is not an easy adventure for everyone. While the view from up above is breathtaking, many people have a fear of flying or easily become restless from sitting in their seats too long. Being able to sleep during a flight is a great way to not only catch up on some z’s during an early morning flight, but it is also a great way to pass the time. 1. Use a Memory Foam Neck Pillow
Lightweight and comfortable, memory foam neck pillows make a great travel companion. If you are in dire need of some solid sleep on your flight, a neck pillow will snuggly sit around your neck and allow you to doze off with ease. Let’s face it, sleeping on a plane without a pillow is uncomfortable and can put a lot of strain on the neck. A neck pillow will ensure your head is well-rested and remind you of the one you have at home in bed. As soon as you sit back with it, you will be drifting off in no time.
2. Choose a Window Seat
While this is not always in your control, if you have the opportunity to select a window seat – take it! When the warm sun beams through the windows as you ascend into the air, it can have a soothing effect on the body. Moreover, the window seat gives you something to lean up against, especially as you doze off.
3. Bring Comfy-Cozy Belongings
Flying with belongings that bring comfort to you may help with sleep. Perhaps you have a favorite old sweater that reminds you of home or a pair of socks that are soft and cozy. Bring items like these along with you, and they will relax you so that you can fall asleep.
4. Listen to Music
Music is a great way to fall asleep. Try listening to some relaxing spa music or soft instrumentals to lull you to sleep. The only thing to keep in mind with listening to music on a plane is how loud you are playing it, as your neighbor may not be too pleased!

Melatonin is a natural hormone that can be taken in pill form to help with irregular sleep schedules or insomnia. It is a safe hormone that should be taken before getting on the plane. Additionally, taking melatonin after a flight can aid in relieving jet lag.
6. Say No to Coffee
A cup of joe is hard to pass up, but there is much to be said about skipping it during a plane ride. A jolt of caffeine can hinder your ability to sleep during a flight. Therefore, save the coffee before or during a flight and reward yourself with one as a nightcap once you get off.
7. Bring a Blanket
Don’t carry a bulky blanket that doesn’t pack easily. But, consider bringing a lightweight but cozy blanket to curl up with during the plane ride. A warm blanket can instantly relax you and encourage slumber.
8. Dress Comfortably
Do you go to bed in a suit and tie? Or maybe tight jeans with a belt that digs into your stomach? Hopefully not. Don’t expect to be able to sleep on a plane if you are wearing uncomfortable clothing. If you are able to, wear sweat pants, a hoodie, leggings, or even gym shorts to allow your body to relax without tight, restrictive clothing. The more comfortable you feel, the easier it should be to close your eyes and sleep.
9. Turn Off Screens
Blue light from screens can seriously interrupt or prevent you from sleeping. Therefore, turn off the TV in front of you and do not look at any laptop or phone. By doing so, your eyes will be able to rest and help you to fall asleep.
